The Tiny Tracks Race is a companion race to the Vintage 5k Run-Walk for children and their families ages 0 to 8.

The race will be held directly after the Vintage 5k Run while the race times are being calculated. The event is designed to advocate family exercise and activity, while at the same time creating an event for the children where everyone is a winner. A half mile will be marked and adults will accompany the kids. A great start for the little ones to begin their running ‘career.’

This will be a nice easy paced half mile.
Decorate your strollers, wear costumes, funny hats and just have fun with it.

There is nothing better than sharing a glass of wine with friends, tasting some fine Sonoma Cuisine, and dancing under the stars. All of this happens at the Patrons’ Night Gala in the historic Sonoma Barracks. Live music, over 50 wineries pouring, and food tastings by Valley restaurants, specialty shops, and caterers all to enjoy at your leisure.

Not only is the Patrons’ Gala about food, wine, and great entertainment, but like the Vintage Festival itself, it is about celebration. During the evening there are many special announcements and awards given out. There are contests for Best Winery Display, Best Food Display, and the popular Amateur Wine Making Competition. Here local vintners can enter their small home made wines to see how they stand up to the judges. The judging is done sometime in August but the awards are given out at the Gala.

Pride & Joy is not just a fabulous dance band, it’s an unforgettable, get-up-and-boogie, high-octane happening. This dynamic and exceptionally popular dance band takes its name from Marvin Gaye’s hit song and celebrates the excitement of Motown bands that made such a huge musical mark in the ’60s and ’70s. With over two decades of phenomenal success, Pride & Joy has remained one of the most popular bands on the San Francisco Bay Area music scene.

This is a local Sonoma tradition you don’t want to miss!

Following the Blessing of the Grapes, watch as local residents reenact the raising of the California Bear Flag. The event celebrates the day California gained its independence from Mexico on June 14, 1846, when a group of men in Sonoma raised the historic flag, representing a call for independence known as the Bear Flag Revolt. Depicting a grizzly bear and the words “California Republic,” this flag symbolizes the pioneering spirit that attracted millions of settlers to California.

Sonoma is proud to be able to say that the first California Bear Flag was raised in our stunning valley. The reenactment is hosted annually by the Bear Flag Acting Trope, a nonprofit group of local performers under the direction of George Webber, dedicated to showcasing Sonoma’s history.

The wedding of General Vallejo’s daughters is a wonderful, costumed reenactment of a beautiful piece of Sonoma history acted out in front of the stunning Mission.

Agoston Haraszthy, a Hungarian immigrant, came to Sonoma and became known as America’s leading winemaker. He developed a friendly relationship with General Mariano Guadalupe Vallejo and on June 1, 1863, the Haraszthy and Vallejo families were united in a double wedding, with two of the Haraszthy sons marrying two of the Vallejo daughters. In that wedding, Natalia Vallejo became Mrs. Attila Haraszthy, and Jovita Vallejo became Mrs. Arpad Haraszthy. This wedding is beautifully re-enacted at the Vintage Festival every year and has become one of the most beloved festival traditions. It is a “must see” event for everyone.

The Blessing of the Grapes is a long standing tradition that starts off the festivities on Saturday morning. Bottles of wine, kindly donated by local wineries who have taken part in the Patrons’ Night Gala the evening before, are set up under the mission bell in front of the Mission San Francisco Solano. Local groups take part in the ceremony which ends with a local Parish Priest blessing the year’s harvest of grapes.

The Mission San Francisco Solano was the last and northernmost California mission, and was the only mission founded after Mexico’s independence from Spain.

Followed by the popular and amusing Bear Flag Revolt Reenactment at 11:00am.

Strike up the band, dress up the kids, and start making your floats; the Parade is here! With all the options for entries and the new starting time of 11a.m. we are hoping that this will be a parade that no one will forget. Gather your family and friends, get your soccer team, shine up the car in the garage under the tarp, whatever you would like and join in the fun of our good old fashioned parade. Be creative!

If you can’t make yourself join in the fun, then please come down to the Plaza and watch those people who have worked on floats and such. This is a tradition for all ages to enjoy and take part in.

There is no place more stunning in the wine country than Sonoma Valley on a September morning. The Vintage 5K Run-Walk will take you through some of the most scenic areas in the downtown area. This event is open to individual runners, families, groups, and even those that would just like to take a morning walk.

The 5K will start at 8:00am September 26th at the Sebastiani Winery, 389 Fourth Street East. The winery was founded in 1904 by Samuele Sebastiani and was in the family for over 100 years. After the run you may want to enjoy their large tasting room, or take their trolley ride down to the Plaza to take part in the last day of the Vintage Festival.

Enjoy the views of the rural Sonoma Valley as you travel through the many vineyards and fields that encircle the area. Founded in 1994 Bartholomew Park Winery will be the next winery on your run. This 37-acre estate vineyard is certified organically farmed since 2005 and is located at the base of the Mayacamas Mountain range.

The last winery on the route is the oldest winery in California. Founded in 1857, Buena Vista Carneros is California’s oldest premium winery, and its history is as colorful as it is proud. Just outside the town of Sonoma, the original winery is now a California Historic Landmark.

All during your run on this scenic loop you will view the beautiful Sonoma Vineyards. Look for the leaves on the grapevines starting to turn to their fall colors of reds and yellows.

Rules and Information

The runners, walkers, strollers, and whomever will meet at the Sebastiani Winery, 389 Fourth St. East in Sonoma before the 8:00am starting time. The course will close 60 minutes after the start of the race.

The entry fee is $20 per person for pre-registered runners. With pre-registration you will receive a T-shirt at the end of the run. If you would like to put together a family group, friends and neighbors or the gang from work, please do so. Families and groups are always welcome and if your group is five or more persons than the price is $10 each. This price also includes a T-shirt. You may sign up the morning of the race, but there will be a $5 extra fee. T-shirts will be limited and those that pre-register will receive them first. All entries would be appreciated by September 17, 2010.

We invite you to get a ‘bunch’ of your friends or neighbors together and join us for a fun run-walk and help support the SVHS Cross Country Team. Create a group name – wear costumes – we want you to enjoy your morning with us and then plan on coming to the Plaza afterwards for the Vintage Festival parade, grape stomp, free entertainment and great wine tasting and food. Your attendance helps support the non profit organizations in our town.

The Valley of the Moon Vintage Festival celebrates the wine industry here in Sonoma year round. One of the traditions is the Amateur Wine Competition that is held each year. Home wine makers, backyard vintners, or just that few bottles that someone worked for years on, have a chance to be judged by a well known panel of judges. Not only are there winners for the best wines, but also for the best label design. Winners will announced at the Patrons’ Night Gala, September 24, 2010.

Toss off your shoes, roll up your pant legs, and get ready for the Great Grape Stomp of the 113th Valley of the Moon Vintage Festival! You’ll be stomping with the best in an opportunity to show off your talents in the barrel. This is not just for the adults, the Stomp has youth heats as well. Your fee includes a T-shirt with the “Valley of the Moon Vintage Festival” 2010 Grape Stomp Logo. This is a great chance to take part in a tradition that goes back to the first days of wine making. So join in the fun and wear your purple feet as a “Badge of Honor”!

How it works:

For the Grape Stomp you need two people. The first person is the “stomper” and gets inside the barrel and stomps the grapes. The second person is known as the “swabber” and stands outside the barrel and catches the juice in the jug provided. The Swabber may also reach inside the barrel to ensure a free flow of juice through the screen and out the drain spout. This is a highly competitive (and very fun) event so bring your A-Game!

There are several different heats with 4 to 5 teams in each heat. Winners from each heat go on to a final for that day. The Grape Stomp heats begin at 2pm both Saturday & Sunday. Space is limited. This is an event that fills up quickly so applying online will increase your chances of holding a space.
